In 2019, as the songs for their debut album, Shambles, were still taking shape, Pēlikel faced a pivotal moment: Roy had announced he would soon be leaving for Montreal. Fearing they might not get another chance to play together before his departure, the band decided to put together a last-minute show to debut their new material live for the first time.
The performance took place at the iconic Radio Beirut in the heart of Mar Mikhael in Beirut, a venue that has since closed following the economic collapse and the aftermath of the 2020 Beirut explosion. Broadcast live on air, the show was recorded, allowing the band to later mix and release it as a live album.
With Roy’s departure imminent, the band had barely any time to rehearse, giving the performance a raw, unpredictable energy. More than anything, it became a moment of reconnection and a catalyst to push the album toward completion. The crowd’s response was immediate and powerful, reinforcing the band’s belief in their music. Even as they soon found themselves scattered across continents, that night carried forward as a turning point, captured in a live recording that marked the moment they realized people were truly listening.
